John S. Renfield: Day Four, Morning

From the Journal of John S. Renfield, Esq.
Entry Four
9/30/10

A/N: I know, I know, I said Friday but then Real Life appeared with work and fanfic plot bunnies and parental BS and next thing I knew it had eaten my weekend. We apologize for the interruption, and now return you to your regularly scheduled hot detective-on-strange-rock action.

OOC: Brief Update

Apologies for not updating in awhile. There's a short list of reasons, not the least of which being that I have midterms over the next week, and that I discovered the Slenderman mythos and haven't been able to sleep properly since Sunday.

Fucking Slenderman.

Anywho. Point is, I haven't been updating like I should, and I'm sorry. Expect to see updates start again either tomorrow or Thursday, Friday at the outside.

OOC: Pages! Well, Page.

Off to the right there, some more observant readers might notice, there's a little something new. It's not particularly ostentatious, though, so I thought I'd highlight it: There is now an 'About the Characters' page. At present, it contains a fairly short profile of John.

I know that, as the author, I'm wont to lose track of what information I've given to the audience and what I haven't. So do please give it a look, and consider: What do you want to know that isn't there? What information seems superfluous? Do you want to know more or less about his stats, about the other players/characters, or his personality and/or background?

Edit as of 22 November 2012: Since this is no longer a blog about John's exploits in gaming, I'm removing the Page, so I'll just copy-pasta the one profile down below the cut here.

Entry Three, further continuation.

John S. Renfield: Day Three, Cont'd: The Books

From the Journal of John S. Renfield, Esquire.
Entry the third, continued.

Dear Diary,

Today I got a job, learned the secrets of the universe, met a real Knight Templar, signed a contract in blood, gained two partners of dubious competence, began hearing voices, met a 200+ year old man who may or may not wish to bring about a devastating calamity that will wipe out half the population or more and possibly set civilization as we know it back to the stone age, agreed to bring him two of the major items that he requires in order to do so, and lied an inordinate number of times. Not necessarily in that order.

    Where to begin?

John S. Renfield: Day Three, Continued

Excerpt from the Casebook of John S. Renfield, Esq.

Date: Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010
Conditions: Cool, cloudy

Job: Contracted to locate and return stolen two stolen jewels.

    Client: Mr. Edgar Windsor

Description of items: The 'Imperial Jewels': a 'Quartz Heart', 'Rose Helix'

Last seen: In secure display case over counter of 'Edgar's Antique Jewels'. Supposedly stolen late at night two days ago.

Description of crime scene: Neither door appeared forced. Main window broken from the inside, glass was not cleaned up well. Display case glass was shattered, despite being two-inch bulletproof glass; remainder felt unusually cold to the touch; edges were straight rather than angled, as if from a laser cutter. No marks on material around or under glass. Nothing else appeared to be missing. Other notable features of store include locked trapdoor and bookshelf containing 'History of the World' volumes 1-6, both in back room.

Fee: $1200 per day plus expenses, $100,000 reward upon return of jewels. To be divvied between partners. See Note below.

    Course of action: Unknown

Note: Been roped into working with partners on this case, one 'detective' Lance DuBois and his techie Carmen -- gave no last name. Must inquire as to name of their agency. See index.

Note 2: Signed contract in blood.

Developments:

4:40 PM: Contract signed.

5:10 PM: Knight Templar appears at the home/base for DuBois' agency, offers to pay double for the stones. Leaves contact information: phone number. See Index entry: Knights Templar.

5:30 PM: Carmen researches client and specifics of contract. See Index.

6:30 PM: Investigate house that Blood Star was in. Find demolitions crew setting up. Expense of $300 in obtaining 15 minutes inside. Find boxes of information in attic. Take a good sampling of photo albums and papers, plus a diary and a notebook.

7:00 PM: Further expense of $300. Foreman says it's a rush job paid for by the city.

8:00 PM: Read diary. See Journal. Don't know if it'll be of use yet.

Welcome Mat

Why hello there, and welcome! I'm Cryptix, and I have no idea who you are, but you've clearly stumbled upon my humble blog somehow or another, so I suppose I ought to do the polite thing and tell you what to expect from it.

The point of this blog isn't to post videos, copy-pasta amusing things from elsewhere on the internets, rant about one current event or another, or go on at length about some trivial aspect of my life that I really shouldn't be expounding upon to total strangers in any case. I'm not so much into those sorts of things. What I am into is writing, drawing, and roleplaying -- and it's those aspects of my life that I'm looking to combine into this blog. My plan is to novelize the adventures of my roleplaying characters and post them here, perhaps adding pictures when the muse strikes me. If I'm lucky, I might even get a couple of comics out.

Most of these posts will be from the first-person perspective of one of my characters, and who it is will be somehow specified in the title of the post. Once in awhile I might post something for myself, in which case I'll put a nice big 'OOC' there in the title. More housekeeping and organizational tricks might pop up in the future. I'll keep you posted.

Unless specified otherwise, these POV characters and any art that goes up belongs to me. I lay no claim to the events or settings, being as these are (largely) pen-and-paper rpgs. Also, unless stated otherwise, any phone numbers, addresses, websites, usernames, or emails that are mentioned in an in-character post are entirely fictional. Also, there will be cursing as I feel it's necessary. I don't censor myself or my characters in text.

No, I won't put a tl;dr version of this down. This is a writing blog. If you can't stand reading four reasonably-sized paragraphs, you probably don't belong here.

One last thing: Feedback and constructive criticisms are not only welcomed but adored.

Editing as of 22 November 2012: Yeah, that bit in the second paragraph about how this isn't for going on at length about trivial aspects of my life? Ignore that. Also the whole third paragraph, ignore that one too.

I'd just rewrite this post in its entirety, but I kind of like to preserve things for posterity.
